******Becoming a lifeguard is only the beginning.  They are actually getting rid of life guards right now due to budget issues.

The Clearwater Beach, Florida guys were recently in the local news because they were about to get the axe, and then they saved four lives that same day.  The city is still debating what to do there.  If the tourists drown, they cannot spend money there!

Poolside lifeguarding for local clubs throughout the country is probably easier to achieve.  I have taken the course, and it requires book work classes as well as swim challenges.  As for the pay, it is not very good, but many guards enjoy the lifestyle as a perk.  I'll always remember the order of saving people:

REACH - THROW - ROW - TOW - GO!
