Floris De Vries hopes to reignite his form on Challenge Tour after a disastrous start on European Tour
Dutchman Floris De Vries is back on track to stage yet another blistering year on the Challenge Tour and is feeling in top form after a strong finish at Barclays Kenya Open.
De vries had a disastrous start on the mainstream European Tour last year, which forced him to switch back to the developmental Challenge Tour this year.
Landing a strong year in 2010, where he finished for a joint fourth on the rankings, De Vries graduated to the European Tour, hoping to launch his mainstream professional career from there onwards.
His 2011 bid on the tour was plagued by consecutive injuries and he fell for low on the 171st in The Race to Dubai, finally losing his card for the next year.
He believes that he has now come out of the past and is all set to reignite his flare for the sport.
De Vries said, “After missing out at the Q School, I was partying, drinking and eating badly – basically doing everything that’s not allowed. I gained weight and didn’t play well in Dubai and India (Avantha Masters) at the start of the year, the two European Tour events I got in through my medical exemption”.
For the moment, De Vries has already clinched a solid start at the Challenge Tour, finishing for a joint tenth at the Barclays Kenya Open and another strong tied 20th in the Pacific Rubiales Colombia Classic in March.
De Vries revealed his self-imposed rehabilitation strategy and said that soon after his recovery from the dreadful injuries, he went over to drive a balance in his diet and bad eating habits.
He started working out, lost a few kilos and it was then he felt that his game has started to come back to him.
De Vries admitted that for a moment, he did underestimate the power of living healthier and insists that he is fitter than ever before.
He added, “I played well at The Open and played really well in the BMW Italian Open (presented by CartaSi), but then I missed a couple of cuts and then got injured again”.
Despite of a poor start on the rookie season on European Tour, De Vries managed a few strong finishes, including the 13th at the season-starter Joburg Open and another joint 44th in the Open Championship at St. George’s.
