Question:

Flower Girl Wars?

My fiance and I are having a hard time choosing a flower girl for our wedding. He has a young niece and I have three young cousins that we had to choose from. We decided to go with his niece because she is also his god-daughter but now I need some kind of task to give to my three young cousins to make then feel included (moreso to make my aunt happy who's been telling the family she's hoping i'll pick her girls for flowergirls)

Can anyone think of a task for three young girls? The only thing I can think of is handing out programs ... but we already have 3 ushers to do that, so i'm kind of at a loss!

Any suggestions appreciated!

  1. Have your future niece and the younger cousin be flower girls and have the two older girls as junior brides. The older girls can wear dresses similar to your older bridesmaids and have your two younger flower girls wear white, or dresses similar to yours.

Or you can have the 8 year old a junior bridesmaid and the 6 year old to hold your train.

This way all 4 girls can be included in the wedding and no one can be upset with you.

    Good Luck!!! =)

  2. They can "man" the guest book at the reception.

Ushers don't need to hand out programs, they should be walking people down.  So use the girls for that.

Are you having a church wedding?  How old are the girls?  They could bring the gifts...

  3. You could have them all be flowergirls.

I'm having 3 flowergirls due to the same situation - - hard time choosing and don't want to upset the family.  My wedding will also be a formal church wedding.

If you don't have ringbearers, you could have 2 flower girls and 2 little girl ringbearers.

  4. Make them all flowers gilrs.  How precious is that !

I had 7 bridesmaids...and 2 junior bridesmaids.   I just couldn't turn down my friends and family that wanted to be in it.

Its your wedding so you can have anyone you like in it.

  5. They could walk down the aisle after the flower girl and light the candles - then they have their own special role.

  6. Out of curiousity why just have one flower girl?  I have seen many weddings where there were more than one and it was so sweet seeing all of them come down the aisle together scattering petals.  Besides, in my experience children are less likely to get stage fright or freak out if there are more of them doing the same thing together.

  7. Depending on the style of dress you have, you could have your cousins be "pages". The job of the pages is to hold up the end of the train of the dress and walk behind the bride down the isle.

Or perhaps, you could have them sing a song during the ceremony.

Or carry something down the isle - like the unity candles, a bible etc. Whatever you are using in the ceremony that is important to you.

    I hope that helps. :)

  8. Make them all flower girls. Have the 3 cousins just carry baskets and walk in first followed by the niece who drops the petals.

    Hope this is helpful!

ETA: For a formal church wedding, having several little girls would not be out of the ordinary. If you cluster the first three followed by the niece then have them all sit with their parents when they get to the end of the aisle, it should work out fine. I've done this procedure several times when there were many children to include.

However, now that I see the ages, you might consider having the youngest cousin be co-flower girl with the niece, and having the older two girls be candle lighters or bell ringers to chime the hour.

  9. Are you having an extravagant wedding? If so, maybe you should consider having several flower girls. If your dress has a train, you could have them hold it for you while you walk down the aisle. You could also put them in charge of taking coats, or escorting people to their seats. What about having them give out the wedding favors on the way into the reception?

  10. You could have them hand out bubbles after the ceremony...Or, why not just have them all as flower girls?

  11. They can handle out bubbles.  The ushers can just escort the guests, and the girls can hand out programs.  The oldest girl can be the guest book attendant . . . and keep an eye on the younger girls.

  12. Let his niece be the miniture bride and the 3 yr old and 6yr old as flower girls and the 8 yr old as a junior bridesmaid. At least that way you won't have 4 flower girls and they are all in the wedding.
