Flower dismisses comparisons with Kevin Pietersen – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806, after the star batsman was denied the opportunity to forego his 50-over commitments.
The ECB’s decision to prolong their relationship with the Zimbabwean tactician for a foreseeable future has opened a new chapter in English cricket after they recognized the need to give its coaching staff much needed break from the relentless schedule.
They have installed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 trophy, the T20 World Cup in 2010.
While both parties have conducted the process carefully, where they have ensured that England’s progression goes unhurt, it has resurfaced the debate whether players should also be given such comforts.
The balancing act between family and work was once brought to light by Pietersen, who wanted to give up his 50-overs commitments but was eager to take part in England’s Test and T20 endeavours. His wishes however, were not granted by the ECB as a clause in their central contract does not allow players to pick a particular format.
That resulted in a standoff between KP and the board, which took a turn for the worse when the former was excluded from Test side as well, and further had to sit out the mega T20 event in September, in which England participated as defending champions.
Although the hatched has been buried, with KP going great guns since returning to the side, the recent development could clearly become a point of reference in the future. Flower however, was keen to draw a line between the two situations.
"He (Pietersen) wanted to retire from 50 overs cricket and play T20 cricket," Flower said. "That is not in line with ECB policy. So the situations are not directly comparable."
