Flower hails Trott’s batting skills, rubbishes criticism
Following Jonathan’s Trott’s honour as ‘Cricketer of the Year’, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Flower-c44362, appreciates the English batsman’s extra ordinary batting capabilities that, he thinks, are precious assets for England cricket.
Trott came into limelight after lashing match-winning 203 at the SWALEC Stadium, Cardiff in England’s 1st Test against Sri Lanka. He lifted ‘Man of the Match’ award for his excellent batting that turned the rivals’ mammoth total into a meager one.
Trott was honoured with ‘Cricketer of the Year’ award last night.
Flower, who is quite impressed by Trott’s splendid innings, said today, “He has been a very solid man to have in our side. Certainly I thought this was a superb innings by him - patient, efficient, and he put the bad balls away.”
Trott was previously criticized for his low batting averages but his double ton has perked up his value overnightly. Flower repudiated all the critics and termed Trott as a reliable and consistent batsman.
He told, “I know he's been criticized for his strike rate in one-day cricket. I think in most cases that has been unfair.”
He further elaborated, “Trott, since he was introduced to this side, has averaged - I'm not sure what - but I think it's above 60 in Test cricket.”
Flower was of the view that Trott’s batting had proved England’s strength in the very first game and he hoped that it would go a long way to help them in achieving victories not only in this series but in the rest of the season too.
The coach also advised the players to mould their games according to the demanding situations. He was of the view that Test cricket is just about standing on the crease for long and scoring runs and the English were well-built to do so.
He also expressed the hopes that England would surely win the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 at home.
Flower has recently got his contract renewed by the England Cricket Board (ECB) for two years more. He has been serving the English cricket successfully since 2007. Under his coach-ship, England has bagged many glories with Ashes victory at the top.
