Question:

Flowergirl dresses aren't the same?

I have two flowergirls. One is 2 1/2 and the other is 8. My friend's daughter is the 8 year old and she just had her communion with church recently. Her mom bought a pretty white dress for her communtion. Since they don't have much money, and the mom is in my wedding and already has to spend a bit of money, I said she can wear that dress in the wedding for a flowergirl dress. The only thing is, I can't find anything similar to that dress for my 2 year old niece that is the other flowergirl. For 2 year olds the dresses are mostly fluffly with bows and the 8 year old's dress is not fluffy with embroidery at the top. Both dresses will be completely white, but do you think it will look good even if both girls are not wearing the same style of dress? I mean they are both adorable, so I don't think it will matter, but just curious what everyone thinks. Thanks.

  1. I have a 7 year old and 3 year old in my wedding with entirely different dresses. They look adorable no matter what they wear!

  2. It will be just fine with the girls in different dresses.

I applaud your consideration for your friend's financial situation.

  3. I think it would look cute that way.

  4. I think it will be just fine. I think that it will be a good match because the 2 year old wont look 8 and the 8 year old wont look 2. I think it will be perfect! good luck and congrats!

  5. I think that will be perfectly fine. Try and get them matching hair bows, or tie a sash of the same color around their waists.

  6. I’ve seen un-matching dresses fairly often.  It’s really not a big deal.

If you do want some unity, you could look for similar fabric and have a dress made for the younger girl. Or you could have the girls wear sashes that coordinate with your wedding colors.

  7. Because there's a big difference in their ages, they don't have to have the same dress. Just get a white dress for the 2 year old that's as close in style as possible. :)

  8. That should be fine.  I mean they are two totally different ages, I think it's nice to have the little one in a big poofy dress and the 8 yr old in a less poofy more age apropriate dress.

  9. i think if you get something similar like the same kind of material and / or a sash around the waist or both sleeveless, then it should be fine.. deep down inside i dont really think anyone would expect an 8 year old and a 2 year old to wear identical dresses because of the age difference.

  10. My friend's wedding had an 8 year old and a 4 year old. Both of their dresses were different but adorable. They added a 1" wide pink ribbon sash to the waist of each dress that tied in a soft bow in front with long tails. It made the dresses have a unifying element and they looked really cute.

  11. when I was little, I was a flower girl in a wedding and I had a different dress than the other girl that was a flower girl with me. It looked fine but if you still want them to look the same, you could find a pattern similar to that one and ask someone who sews well to make it.
