Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao exchange words on call for possible fight – Boxing news
The most awaited fight of 2012, Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao, still seems to be on the cards.
Floyd Mayweather Jr., who in the past seemed negligent towards the mega event, is now raring to have it. The five-division world champion has recently been making his best efforts to persuade fellow welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao for the ‘super-fight.’
And in doing so, he made an effort to break the ice between both the champions by ringing up Manny on Wednesday night to directly discuss the possibilities of having the combat.
Rumours of the fight have been in air since the last two years, making it probably the most anticipated fight in the boxing universe, since both the fighters are public favourites.
Until January, Mayweather was being considered as the one heedless of putting in any efforts, however now the chips have fallen and looks like Mayweather is on his toes 24/7 to give his fans a big reason to cheer up before he goes to jail to serve his 87-day
sentence.
When asked about the call, Floyd stated, “There is no fight I want more than the Manny Pacquiao fight. I guess he said he agreed to fight. The only thing that is stopping this fight right now that I truly believe is stopping the fight, is Bob Arum.”
Mayweather informed media personnel about the happening while he was present at the Susan G. Komen breast cancer charity to donate $100,000 to accommodate with the promise he had made to the sentencing judge.
Bob Arum has been in the limelight for quite some time as the man who does not want the fight to take place. Manny, on the other hand, seems pretty much satisfied with whatever is going on.
When asked about the fight date, the eight-division world champion said, “We did not talk about the date.”
He elaborated further saying, “I told him we should do the fight as long as he agrees to 50-50 sharing.”
Mayweather’s sentence starts on June 1, and before that, he is eager to leave a grand mark in the industry. If things work out, Mayweather will be heading towards fighting the WBO Welterweight Champion Manny Pacquiao soon.
However, Chairman of Top Rank and Manny’s promoter, Bob Arum is of the view that the fight will be pushed towards the end of May or start of June and cannot be held earlier, in order to give the champion time to recover from the 29-stitch cut Juan Manuel
Marquez gave him in November during their last fight.
Arum further stated that if the fight between Manny and Mayweather does not happen by June, they will surely look forward to it by the end of November.
