Floyd Mayweather: I think I am going to be very aggressive against Miguel Cotto – Boxing News
WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. has promised his fans to display his aggressive side against Miguel Cotto on May 5 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas. Miguel Cotto will defend his World Boxing Association junior middleweight title in this
fight.
Both the fighters were present in Manila, Philippines to promote their fight. When asked about his fighting style, Mayweather iterated, “Am I going to be in a very, very aggressive style? I believe so.”
He further added, “I just have to see how the fight plays out, but I'm going to approach it in a very, very aggressive way and go out there and press the attack early.”
Mayweather currently stands with 42 wins, 0 losses and 26 knockouts in his portfolio. He remains undefeated to date and chances are that he will extend his streak after beating Cotto, as most analysts put it. Mayweather, throughout his career, has displayed
his defensive side, for which he is known worldwide. He is the master of defence in the ring when it comes to boxing. However, this time he says it will be a bit different. He added, “As you can see in my last fight, as each round went on, I started throwing
more and more combinations because I feel that every fighter comes out strong the first, second and third round. But there's nine more.”
Mayweather’s last fight was against Victor Ortiz in September last year, in which he dominated Ortiz very well. Keeping in mind Cotto’s two previous knockouts – against Antonio Margarito and Manny Pacquiao – Mayweather thinks it will be easier for him to
beat Cotto with aggression rather than defence.
He further added that he thinks if a guy has been knocked out once, he fears it can happen again which is the main reason as to why he (Mayweather) thinks he can knockout Cotto. He then said he is faster and a better counter-puncher than Cotto which gives
him an edge over Cotto.
Most analysts have rated Miguel Cotto was the underdog for this mega-fight, since they think Cotto is not tough enough against Mayweather.
