Floyd Mayweather: I’m not giving up the split – Boxing News
Floyd Mayweather has been throwing tantrums towards Manny Pacquiao and has been explaining why he did not go for Manny and instead opted for Miguel Cotto. The match that did not happen has already created a lot hype throughout the global boxing community.
Both the fighter, Manny and Floyd, have clarified their side of the stories, yet something seems to be sorted out.
Last week, in an interview, Manny came up saying that Floyd Mayweather embarrassed him by not offering a 50/50, which according to Manny is his right. Floyd, on the other hand, has explained himself saying ‘Manny is not the sharpest knife in the drawer’
and therefore he does not deserve a 50/50 split. As of now, Mayweather came up with another harsh series of comments for Manny. He iterated, “How my deal is structured at this particular time in the sport of boxing, I keep 100% of the [pay-per-view] revenue,
so why would I even give a guy 50-50. At this particular time, I’m not just the highest paid guy in the sport of boxing, I’m the highest paid athlete.”
Mayweather further added, “I’m not giving up the split. I’m not. I can’t. I can’t afford to. No I’m not. I gave this sport my whole life. I’ve been dominating in this sport. I have record breaking numbers that I’ve done.” He also added that Pacquiao has
not created any streaks or any records to date which makes him inferior to himself (Mayweather).
Manny Pacquiao will be taking on Timothy Bradley on June 9, 2012, whereas Floyd Mayweather will be going head to head Miguel Cotto on May 5. Both the bouts will be held at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas. As of now, it is being speculated that these two
fights will be the most revenue generating ones of 2012. According to Promoter Bob Arum, a bout is possible between Mayweather and Pacquiao by November, 2012. If the fight happens, it is estimated that it will be the most revenue-generating bout of all times.
For boxing fans, this will be the most exciting match of the year, if it happens that is.
