Floyd Mayweather Jr could face jail time
Not that it will change much, but Floyd Mayweather Jr. may have to confine himself to shadow boxing in his jail cell for the next six months.
Michael Marley of the Boxing Examiner confirmed today that the fighter, should he be convicted of battery charges in a weekend incident with on and off girlfriend Josie Harris, will face six months jail
time.
Marley said the public should hear from a DA by week’s end.
This past week Mayweather, the undefeated and highest grossing star in professional boxing, traded in his boxing gloves for a stealthier pair and allegedly broke into Harris’s home twice in the same evening.
“Money” proceeded to steal her iPhone in an attempt to read text messages between her and alleged lover, CJ Watson.
Returning a second time to the home, which he owns, Mayweather allegedly battered Harris in front of their ten-year old son, Kouran.
Kouran Mayweather has since testified to the police and verified the incident.
For his part, Watson has denied all links in the bizarre love triangle.
Should Mayweather be jailed, it will mean a potential fight with welterweight king Manny Pacquiao will be pushed back at least six months longer than if Mayweather were out of jail. On the flip side,
that kind of life change might just be the thing to push “Money” into the fight.
Boxing fans have been eagerly anticipating the bout between the top two pound-for-pound rated fighters in the world for two years now, slowly becoming more and more fatigued with Mayweather’s shenanigans
and lack of interest in the fight.
Don King recently spoke up on the ordeal, indicating that Mayweather was ultimately a product of his surroundings and giving the turns of events a racial twist. King suggested Mayweather, while talented
in the ring, has yet to receive an education in how to treat people and cope in the real world.
Mayweather's image has taken a battering from the entire episode, though with his antagonistic persona he was never a fan favourite to begin with.
