Floyd Mayweather Jr. to release this Friday – Boxing News
WBC welterweight titlist Floyd Mayweather will release from jail this Friday after serving two months in jail.
The undefeated US fighter served time in Clark County Detention Center after pleading guilty in December to misdemeanour charges in a dispute with his girlfriend. Josie Harris, Floyd’s ex-girlfriend, filed charges against the fighter for physically assaulting
her in front of the kids.
Upon Mayweather’s plea earlier this year, Justice of the Peace Peace Melissa Saragosa remarked, “Punishment is appropriate. No matter who you are, you have consequences to your actions when they escalate to this level of violence.”
As per the records, 35-year-old Floyd Mayweather will be released on Friday from the Detention Center. Mayweather’s jail time was 90 days, but due to his good behaviour and work during his tenure, the American fighter has been granted some time off, according
to Jose Hernandez.
Floyd Mayweather last fought Miguel Cotto in March earlier this year. He then surrendered to jail on June 1. In order to avoid a trial on felony charges, the undefeated American fighter pleaded guilty in December last year. If the trial had taken place,
Mayweather could have got a sentence of 34 years at its utmost.
No news from Mayweather’s camp of his release has been confirmed yet.
Last month, an appeal was filed with the district attorney to shift Mayweather into house arrest. According to Mayweather’s legal team, the lack of nutrition and exercise can put the fighter’s career in jeopardy. However, the application was rejected based
on equality for all criminals.
As of now, Mayweather’s plans of carrying on with his career are uncertain. Some suggest that the American proud will go for temporary retirement, until he finds himself fit for the sport again. On the other hand, Mayweather’s camp is already busy finding
a suitable opponent for the unbeaten fighter.
Earlier this week, it was announced that a fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather could happen, only if the latter finds it possible. Pacquiao, former WBO welterweight titlist, is on the brink of retirement and he wants to challenge Mayweather
before quitting.
Once Mayweather is out, only then it will be revealed as to whom he will fight next.
