Freddie Roach has already become the centre of attention of many critics after the losses of his two top fighters, Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan. In a recent interview, Floyd Mayweather Sr, father of Floyd Mayweather Jr., came up saying Roach is an incapable
coach who only knows how to make his fighters lose.
While talking about a possible bout between Pacquiao and Mayweather, Mayweather sr. said, “He (Roach) was never a good defensive fighter, so how can he teach someone to be one?”
He added, “You gotta be able to throw triple hooks and all that stuff to the body, to the head, up and down, sideways, in and out, and he ain't got all of that, and you gotta be able to get out of the way of shots while you doing all of that.”
“All he got is coming straight forward, and that's why Pacquiao knows what he's going to get when they fight Floyd!”
Currently, Floyd Mayweather is serving his three months jail sentence. Manny Pacquiao is eager to fight him but there is no word from Mayweather’s camp.
When Manny last met his promoter Bob Arum, he demanded a match against Mayweather but was refused. According to Bob Arum, until Floyd comes out of jail, there is no certainty as to whether he would want to fight Pacquiao.
Arum believes in Mayweather’s absence, no one from his camp can assure him if the unbeaten American will fight Pacquiao.
Pacquiao lost to Timothy Bradley in June via controversial split decision and Amir Khan was knocked out by Danny Garcia in the fourth round past Saturday. Both fighters are trained by Freddie Roach, Hall of Famer trainer.
As of now, Amir Khan is considering to split up with Roach, believing he is not given enough attention. Similarly, rumours of Pacquiao disagreeing with Roach on several occasions have come in, suggesting a possible break-up between the duo.
Roach denies all these rumours, saying most people are jealous of his popularity and therefore they target his capabilities and skills. Roach runs the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles where most of his fighters train.
