Floyd Mayweather Sr. admits world behind Pacman and not his son
In a rare revelation, Floyd Mayweather Sr. has conceded that the “world is behind” boxing sensation Manny Pacquiao and not his undefeated son Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Mayweather Sr. stopped by the 100th edition of On the Ropes Boxing Radio recently to offer thoughts on Pacquiao’s latest performance, his son, and the state of professional boxing.
Mayweather reiterated that he forecasted all along Pacquiao would outpace Margarito and easily win the fight. However, he held to his guns that Pacquiao must be taking performance enhancing drugs in order
to take shots from the much bigger Margarito and yet come back so effectively.
“I have never seen a man that small beating all these big men,” Mayweather said in amazement. “It has never happened in boxing and it probably never will and my suspicion with what’s going on, hey!—It’s
so plain to see a blind man could see it. That’s all I can say.”
Negotiations between Pacquiao and Mayweather Jr. were sidetracked a first time when Mayweather insisted Pacquiao be subject to ‘Olympic style drug tests’ up until the fight.
Offended, Pacquiao initially declined and filed a character defamation case against team Mayweather and Golden Boy Promotions. The case is ongoing.
The elder Mayweather continued: “There is nothing that man [Pacquiao] can do that surprises me, because right now the world is behind him and whatever he’s doing, the world is behind him. Whether it’s
right or wrong the world is behind him, and that’s the way it is.”
Mayweather Sr., a fighter himself, taught his son “Pretty Boy Floyd” most of what he knows in the ring. Mayweather is particularly noted for gifting his son with his extraordinary defensive tactics, which
have allowed Mayweather to remain unharmed against even the toughest of opponents.
Due to a falling out between Mayweather and son in 2001, Mayweather Jr. enlisted the services of his uncle, Roger, who improved upon his offensive arsenal. Mayweather is remains under the tutelage of
uncle Roger but receives out-the-ring guidance by his father.
