Floyd Mayweather Sr. backs Manny Pacquiao over controversial split decision loss – Boxing News
While the ‘Mayweathers’ are usually found opposing Manny Pacquiao, this time things have changed. After Manny Pacquiao lost his WBO Welterweight title to Timothy Bradley past Saturday, a lot of fans, celebrities, former fighters, current fighters and trainers
condemned the decision. Among all, surprisingly, is Floyd Mayweather Sr., who believes Manny Pacquiao won the fight.
In an interview yesterday, Floyd Mayweather Sr. spoke about Pacquiao vs. Bradley, calling it a victory for the Pac-man. “I feel like Pacquiao won the fight but I am not going to sugarcoat nothing. The last fight belonged to Marquez. This one belonged to
Pacquiao. I’m calling it like it is,” said Mayweather sr.
Praising Bradley for his efforts, Mayweather remarked, “I thought Tim Bradley put up one helluva fight. But I didn’t think he won the fight.” He added, “I felt he (Pacquiao) won the fight. I felt like there was a gap, where you could see who was winning.”
Keeping in mind the fact that Floyd Mayweather sr., Floyd Mayweather jr. and Roger Mayweather have already accused Manny Pacquiao of using steroids, such a positive statement in Pacquiao’s favour from either one of them is shocking. However, since nobody,
not even a single writer, analyst, fighter or trainer, believes Pacquiao lost, it is believable that the Mayweathers would say the same.
Floyd Mayweather jr. is currently in detention in Las Vegas, serving his 90-day jail sentence. The pugilist was not allowed to watch the match between his long time rival Pacquiao and the unbeaten fellow American fighter Timothy Bradley. However, the uproar
over the split decision win must have reached Mayweather in the detention centre too.
Bob Arum, promoter for both the fighters, has promised Pacquiao a rematch, as it is written in the contract that was signed between the Pac-man and Bradley. The rematch will probably take place in November but no official announcement of it has been made
yet. For now, it seems like fans and Pacquiao will have to swallow the red pill and accept the reality, which is that the Filipino striker lost after all. With this victory, Bradley’s record has now moved up to 29 victories and 0 loss.
