Floyd Mayweather Sr. believes Pacquiao was good against Marquez – Boxing News
It is ironic to see Filipino fighter Manny Pacquiao’s foes turning into his well-wishers while his friends and supporters have turned their backs towards him. WBC welterweight titlist Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his father Floyd Mayweather Sr. have sweet words
for their once most bitter foe. Pacquiao, who suffered a sixth round knockout at the hands of Mexican fighter Juan Manuel Marquez, is being appreciated by the Mayweathers, which is as unexpected as Pacquiao’s knockout itself.
“I think that Pacquiao was winning the earlier rounds, but he got dropped early too though, so I'm pretty sure he did not win that round, but pretty much the rest of the fight he was winning,” said Mayweather Sr. in an interview with Doghouse Boxing.
“Pacquiao did little something that was changing the fight; he was doing some fainting, fainting his head, he was fainting there fainting here, he was making Marquez come at him, and than Pacquiao was clocking him, Pacquiao killing him with the punches,”
he added.
While Mayweather had sweet words to Pacquiao, he was not much appreciating Freddie Roach. According to Mayweather, Pacquiao definitely was playing smart against Marquez this time, and that is something that did not come from Freddie Roach.
According to him, Roach has never taught Pacquiao to play smart and the moves the Filipino displayed against Marquez this time were completely out of Roach’s expertise. When asked if Floyd Mayweather Jr. would ever face Pacquiao, Mayweather Sr. rejected
the notion saying the fight is no longer demanded.
He termed it as a waste like many other senior fighters do. Back in the day, fans were dying to watch Pacquiao vs. Mayweather but no more. The super-fight has lost its charm and it seems like it will never ever happen now.
For Pacquiao, Mayweather Sr. believes he should run for president since he has already done enough in boxing and it is time for him to retire. Like all others, even Mayweather Sr. believes Pacquiao’s chances of recovering from Marquez’s devastating punch
are low. However, he does not think it is a dead end for the Filipino, and that the former WBO welterweight titlist can bounce back.
