Floyd Mayweather Sr. says Manny Pacquiao is not even close to his son – Boxing news
Floyd Mayweather Sr., who is the father of five-division world champion and the current World Boxing Council World Welterweight Champion Floyd Mayweather Jr., has ruled out Manny Pacquiao’s bout with his son, as he believes the Filipino star is not in the
same league.
Pacquiao, who is an eight-division world champion and the World Boxing Organisation World Welterweight Champion (Super Champion), last weekend, secured a 12-round controversial majority decision over Juan Manuel Marquez in their highly anticipated trilogy
bout at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Therefore, Mayweather Sr. believes he would not be able to cope with his son’s class.
Mayweather Sr. told Boxingtalk.com, “The fans can forget about it. The fans can forget about it now. The only chance that the fans can see this fight is if Pacquiao wants to take that money, and get what he has coming to him. He didn't even drop Marquez.
He didn't even come close to dropping him. As a matter of fact, Marquez made him miss almost everything.”
Meanwhile, Mayweather Sr. also commented on Amir Khan, who is currently the unified World Boxing Association Super and International Boxing Federation Light Welterweight Champion. The Bolton’s finest, who is widely known as King Khan, is desperate to have
a clash with the undefeated American legend, Mayweather Jr. However, Mayweather Sr. reckons Khan is not ready yet to take on his son.
Mayweather added, “There's a lot of guys that Little Floyd can fight. He can fight Timothy Bradley. Timothy Bradley said he wanted to fight. He can fight Amir Khan. Amir Khan said he can whoop Little Floyd, but you know what Amir Khan ain't ready for him.”
Mayweather is planning to return to the ring on May 5 and he hinted he wants to take on Pacquiao whereas Pacquiao’s promoter, Bob Arum, is looking to set up a fourth fight between Marquez and his man instead of a super-fight with the American superstar.
Moreover, after Mayweather Senior’s statement it does not look like there is going to be a super-fight between the Filipino and the American still let’s hope these two fighters sign a contract somehow.
