Floyd Mayweather believes jail sentence is just another obstacle – Boxing News
While most athletes would be startled to get a jail sentence, Floyd Mayweather is an exception. The WBC welterweight champion will be facing Miguel Cotto tonight, May 5, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. This will be his last fight before he started his jail
sentence from June 1. However, it seems like Floyd has taken the jail sentence quite lightly. In his recent interview, the unbeaten American fighter said that he took the decision as any other obstacle in his career and that he is strong enough to go through
such obstacles and make the most positive out of them.
When asked about the jail sentence, Mayweather replied, “Well, you've got certain obstacles that get in your way throughout your career, but you have to be a strong individual. If anyone has followed my career, they know that there's been a lot of obstacles
and a lot of ups and down through my career. But day in and day out, and in the square circle, I went out there and always did my best. I always put my boxing first.”
On the other hand, Mayweather’s closest adviser Leonard Ellerbe commented on it saying, “This is just another one of those challenges in front of him. He'll find a way to dissect it and overcome it. Floyd Mayweather is cut from a different cloth. He's not
like your average fighter, your average human being. That's what makes him who he is.”
Mayweather added that he is not really thinking about the sentence right now and he is just preparing himself mentally and physically to face Miguel Cotto. Mayweather said that Miguel Cotto is a good fighter and he might be his toughest opponent of all time.
Miguel Cotto was also asked about Mayweather’s jail sentence and the Puerto Rican champion decided to remain quiet. Cotto is known for his composure and he is not among those who trash talk for others. Throughout the lead up, Cotto has only spoken of himself
saying he is preparing his best for the bout and that he will be the one to end Mayweather’s undefeated streak.
