Floyd Mayweather insists Ricky Hatton was the last courageous opponent he faced – Boxing news
The five-division world champion and the current World Boxing Council Emeritus World Super Welterweight Champion Floyd Mayweather insists Ricky Hatton was the last man who showed courage against him in the ring.
The undefeated American legend, Mayweather, who holds a record of winning all of his 41 professional fights, with 25 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, is being criticised by a lot of people. The American pugilist has not been able to knockout
anyone since he fought with the Hitman, Hatton, back in 2007.
The 34-year-old Mayweather therefore has responded to the critics. He said he has not knocked down anyone after Hatton because he was the last courageous boxer he faced.
Mayweather said all the opponents he faced after Hatton went into survival mode when they saw themselves down on the scorecards and that was the reason he could not knock them out.
Mayweather in the meanwhile also discussed his wins over the likes of Sugar Shane Mosley and Juan Manuel Marquez.
“It's just that these fighters go into survival mode,” Mayweather explained. “Once they're down on the scorecard or once they feel they have no chance of winning, they go into survival mode. Mosley did the same thing. Marquez did the same thing. These guys
go into survival mode.”
“Hatton was a little different. Hatton came to fight, and so, I get knock-outs if a guy comes to fight and put it all on the line, but once you get to the pinnacle, you get to Floyd Mayweather - you get to elite level, the guys - they go into survival mode,”
Mayweather added.
Floyd ‘Pretty Boy’ Mayweather is set to face the current World Boxing Council’s World Welterweight Champion, Victor ‘The Vicious’ Ortiz on September 17, 2011 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. After all that has been said, it is fair to say that
it will certainly be an explosive fight.
Let’s see which of the two pugilists gets his undefeated record broken on the fight night.
