Floyd Mayweather is mournful for Pacquiao’s knockout loss – Boxing News
WBC welterweight titlist Floyd Mayweather Jr. is mournful for Manny Pacquiao’s knockout loss against Mexican fighter Juan Manuel Marquez. Mayweather, who has always found himself against Pacquiao in the world of boxing, had words of comfort for the former
WBO welterweight titlist in an interview with fighthype.com on Monday.
“Things happen. You live and learn,” said Mayweather for Pacquiao, who lost via sixth round knockout to his nemesis Marquez during their fourth showdown.
“The only thing he can do is rejuvenate himself and bounce back like a true champion.
“Marquez is a true champion, Manny Pacquiao is a true champion. Both of them went out there and put on a good performance and that's a good thing for the sport of boxing. I wish Pacquiao nothing but the best. I wish that he can bounce back and recoup from
this.”
Mayweather did not speak about his potential super-fight against the Filipino fight king. The unbeaten fighter has not fought since his last fight against Puerto Rican fighter Miguel Cotto earlier this year.
For now, Mayweather believes Pacquiao can make it back to the top, even though he suffered a career devastating loss at the hands of Marquez.
Like everyone else, even Mayweather believes that Pacquiao has a lot on his mind apart from boxing, which impedes him from giving his best to the sport.
“In the sport of boxing, you really have to dedicate yourself to the craft. I think he's got so many different things on the outside that he's worried about, you know,” he added.
Pacquiao fought with Marquez for the fourth time. He already had bagged two victories against the Mexican with the first fight ending up in a tie. However, Pacquiao’s victories over Marquez have never been as solid as Marquez’s knockout victory. The Filipino
won his first showdown against the Mexican via unanimous decision and the second one via split decision.
For now, Pacquiao stands in a position for most of his allies, including his family, want him to retire but the Filipino is confident that he is not over yet. Even though Marquez delivered a well-timed punch, it was Pacquiao mistake that led him to such
a destructive end.
