Floyd Mayweather maintains silence over Pacquiao – Boxing News
For a change, Floyd Mayweather did not utter a single word against Manny Pacquiao at the Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles on March 2. The event was part of Mayweather vs. Miguel Cotto promotional tour, and both the fighters were present there along with their
respective promoters.
Both the fighters were sitting on golden thrones in the Theatre, which is near the Wild Card Gym where Manny Pacquiao is currently under training by Freddie Roach. This was probably an excellent opportunity for Mayweather to hit on his long time rival but
instead he stayed silent and limited his words only to his fight against Cotto, which was definitely a surprise since Mayweather is known for hitting at the Pac-man whenever he gets the chance.
Instead, when he asked about Manny, he changed the topic by saying, “My job is not to worry about other fighters. My job is to fight the guy in front of me.”
It should be noted here that Mayweather has been rough towards Manny in the recent past. He previously accused Manny of using steroids and called him ‘not the sharpest knife in the drawer’. However, this time not a single word from Mayweather came in against
Pacquiao. He further iterated, “I’m just thankful for where I’m at today in this sport. I’ve lasted a long time in this sport by being sharp, having tremendous defense. Whatever his great attributes are, I have to do what I do best.”
Mayweather was asked about his May 5 opponent Miguel Cotto, on which he answered, “I look at Miguel Cotto as an undefeated fighter, because Miguel Cotto fought one fighter at a catch weight to where he wasn’t full strength.”
Mayweather will be fighting Cotto on May 5 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas. Miguel Cotto’s WBA 154-pound belt will be on the line. The fight has already gained much hype in the last few weeks, especially after Mayweather started talking about Pacquiao
in his fight’s promotional legs. Many analysts are of the view that Mayweather is just using Pacquiao’s name to provoke Pacquiao fans and sell his fight. If that is his master plan then it surely is working for now.
