Floyd Mayweather not hopeful for fight against Pacquiao this fall – Boxing News
The current WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather jr. is not hopeful of having the super-bout with Manny Pacquiao anytime soon. In his recent interview, Floyd Mayweather said that he does not think he will be fighting against Manny Pacquiao this fall.
Commenting on the status of the fight, Mayweather said, “No, I don't think it's going to happen. It's because of [Pacquiao promoter] Bob Arum. It's not my fault.”
Even though Hall of Famer coach Freddie Roach believes both Pacquiao and Mayweather will fight by November, the WBC champion thinks it is not going to happen. Moreover, he thinks all of it is due to Bob Arum and neither of the pugilists.
In his recent interview, Freddie Roach commented about the bout saying, “There's nowhere else for them to go.”
Similarly, Floyd Mayweather’s uncle Roger Mayweather had claimed that both the pugilists will be clashing in November this year. He sounded pretty confident over his nephew and when asked about Pacquiao he said, “Why wouldn't you? There ain't no way that
guy [Pacquiao] lasts five rounds against my nephew.”
Floyd Mayweather jr. is currently scheduled to face Miguel Cotto on May 5 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. It is pertinent to mention here that Floyd was actually in direct contact with Pacquiao to make the super-bout happen. However, both the fighters were
unable to reach an agreement due to which both of them found other opponents. While Floyd’s camp got Cotto for Floyd, Pacquiao’s camp got unbeaten American pugilist Timothy Bradley for the Filipino. Pacquiao will be facing Timothy Bradley on June 9 at the
MGM Grand. It will be Bradley’s first mega-bout of his career but for Pacquiao this will be just another fight.
Fans of both the sides were waiting eagerly for Floyd and Pacquiao to clash, but it did not happen. To calm them down, Bob Arum, promoter for Pacquiao, said that the fight might happen by November, a notion that has now been rejected by Mayweather. For now,
fans have yet another reason to mourn since Floyd has already broken their hearts by putting up such a statement.
