Floyd Mayweather or Sweetpea Whitaker?

Who would win if they both fought in their prime?

This q can expose people's shortcomings in boxing knowledge.  Folks need to keep in mind that both fighters were proficient at infighting as well as from range.  Pernell whipped Chavez on the inside, and Mayweather whipped Hatton on the inside.  Folks that  think that these 2 would just shell each other from long range are mistaken.  Both Whitaker's and Mayweather's defenses were too good to get hit by the other from outside.  Once the bell rings, they would get increasingly closer in order to start landing punches.  The difference maker in this fight would be Whitaker's handspeed being enough to overwhelm Mayweather's defense.  That shoulder roll won't work against Whitaker.  

Whitaker, with his tricky lefty style and circular movement, takes the fight with timely combo punching.  Decision victory, hard fought, and nothing but infighting from about round six on.  Good workrate from both fighters.

I completely agree with Woody.

I think the fight will be BORING. I will just watch it, to see who has the most skill. I think Whitaker will be  the winner.  There's no particular reason why I chose him.

jus thinking about a match up like that makes want to yawn,about 99% of veiwers watching them 2 runners go at it would fall asleep or jus change the channel even before its over!

Well, one thing is for sure..... the fight would definitely go the distance with them two fighting each other in their prime. It would be a frustrating fight for casual fight fans. Anyway, it's tough for me to pick a clear winner. I think the judges in this case would simply give the fight to which ever man is the aggressor, if that's even possible to determine, lol.

Pernell Whitaker would win on points

Whitaker has the edge in defense.  Mayweather has the edge in offense.  It is only in the later rounds where Floyd would begin to make a few mistakes.  Whitaker would capitalize on the mastakes and score a close decision.

At lightweight Pernell would win.  At welterweight Mayweather would win because sweetpea didnt carry all his tools to 147 as Floyd did.

Not boring, tactical.  Just like a casual baseball fan doesn't want to see a 1-0 game, a real fan of the sport can see a lot watching that.  I think a better fight would be Mayweather - Leonard in their primes.  Ray did wax Floyd Sr.

Probably floyd, whitaker relied a lot more on defense than mayweather and ran around a lot too, mayweather could be the aggressor when he wanted to (watch mayweather vs ndou and mayweather vs Judah in the last few rounds) and floyd has superior counter punching abilities, this all gives floyd the edge in this fight.
