Floyd Mayweather says he does not need Manny Pacquiao after defeating Victor Ortiz – Boxing news
The five-division world champion and the current World Boxing Council World Welterweight Champion, Floyd Mayweather has said that he does not need Manny Pacquiao for a fight after he defeated Victor Ortiz on September 17, 2011 in the fourth round.
However, everyone was left flabbergasted when the undefeated American legend, Mayweather, who now holds a record of winning all of his 42 professional fights, with 26 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, revealed he does not want to fight Manny Pacquiao,
who is currently rated as the number one pound-for-pound boxer in the world.
Mayweather, who made a minimum of $25 million from his victory over Ortiz, stated whenever he fights he makes a lot of money so he is not really concerned whether if he fights Pacquiao or not.
“I don't need Pacquiao,” Mayweather, 34, told reporters after beating Ortiz at the MGM Grand Arena. “With or without Pacquiao, every time Floyd Mayweather goes out there, he's going to make over $70 million.”
The Pretty Boy Mayweather remarked Pacquiao, who is an eight-division world champion and the current World Boxing Organisation Welterweight World Champion (Super Champion), never called upon him when he was in his prime.
“I don't need him. Where was Pacquiao in 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 when I was dominating the game? He never asked me (for a fight) when I was in my twenties or when I was in my teens,” Mayweather added.
Mayweather in the end also claimed Pacquiao is famous only because of him.
“When they say Pacquiao, they say that's the guy they are trying to get to fight Floyd Mayweather. When they say Floyd Mayweather, they say the greatest ever,” Mayweather claimed.
Floyd Mayweather and the Fighting Pride of Philippines, Manny Pacquiao, who is currently set to fight the Mexican Dinamita, Juan Manuel Marquez on November 12, 2011 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, are the two biggest draw-cards of their generation,
as their bout will decide the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world.
