Floyd Mayweather says still five more fights to go – Boxing News
Floyd Mayweather Jr., the current WBC welterweight champion, denounced theories of his retirement after his fight with Miguel Cotto, asserting that he has five more fights in him to go for.
In his recent interview, Mayweather said that he does not plan to retire until he turns 37 and that he indeed plans on to take on Manny Pacquiao, the current WBO welterweight champion. However, he did not say when and where he plans to have the super-fight.
Moreover, he did not even speak about how it is even possible to have the bout with Pacquiao, especially after Mayweather’s recent harsh comments on the Filipino.
Not only this, Mayweather even spoke about how he feels for Pacquiao and how he got to know. According to him, he got to know about Pacquiao when the latter fought Agapito Sanchez in San Francisco in an undercard bout, around 11 years ago. He iterated, “They
said he was fighting when they were putting the chairs down. Or maybe when they were sweeping up the popcorn.”
When asked about who is eyeing to fight next after his mega-bout with Miguel Cotto on May 5, Mayweather said, “I don't want to fight anybody else but him. Nobody! I want him. I don't want to fight Cotto. Not Canelo. And I ain't looking to fight Marquez a
second time. Nobody! I want him! I only want one person, Pacquiao...”
He also spoke about the lawsuit Manny Pacquiao filed against him. The lawsuit was filed by Pacquiao’s camp for being accused of taking steroids to enhance performance by Mayweather. On this Mayweather said, “I can't really even speak on the situation. Any
time I say anything, it's a lawsuit, we're always hearing from lawyers.”
Mayweather will be facing Miguel Cotto on May 5 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. If Mayweather wins the fight, which is quite possible, he might face Manny Pacquiao in November after completing his 90-day imprisonment. For now, the news is that Mayweather
is not retiring soon and his fans should rejoice since he has claimed he will go for five more fights before hanging up his gloves.
