Floyd Mayweather senior tells Ricky Hatton that committing suicide is foolish – Boxing news
Floyd Mayweather senior, who is the father and former trainer of the five-division world champion and the current World Boxing Council World Welterweight Champion Floyd Mayweather, has responded to Ricky ‘the Hitman’ Hatton, who recently said he considered
committing suicide after his second round knockout defeat to Manny Pacquiao.
Floyd senior, who was Hatton’s trainer at the time the Brit mixed up with Pacquiao, stated committing suicide is not the solution.
Floyd senior was pleading Hatton to stick to the game plan during his fight but Hatton did not, as perhaps he had decided to fight Pacquiao toe-to-toe. Floyd senior admitted bad things happen in the sport but one should not take extreme measures.
“Well, you know, sometimes things like that can happen,” Floyd Sr. said to Examiner.com. “But to me, it’s foolish for anybody to take their life.”
“I mean, he could take it if he wanted to but you only got one life and hey, once you’re gone, you’re gone. Ain’t no coming back,” said Floyd Sr.
Ricky Hatton, who is a former two-time International Boxing Federation and International Boxing Organisation light welterweight champion, met the eight-division world champion and the current World Boxing Organisation Welterweight World Champion (Super Champion),
Manny Pacquiao, in a much-anticipated bout back in May 2009 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The fight proved to be a nightmare for Hatton, as he was brutally knocked out in the second round by the Fighting Pride of Philippines, Pacquiao. Hatton afterwards disappeared for a long time before he finally announced his retirement from the sport on July
7, 2011.
The 32-year-old Hatton during his career won 45 of his 47 professional fights, with 32 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout. His only two losses came against Floyd Mayweather junior and Manny Pacquiao. Therefore, millions of his fans still want to
see him fighting again in the ring. Let’s hope Hatton shocks the world by making a comeback.
