Floyd Mayweather slapped with restraining order
Boxing star Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been temporarily prohibited from contact with former girlfriend Josie Harris and their two children.
In a first update since charges were filed against the fighter in September, TMZ reports that a Las Vegas judge has placed a restraining order on Mayweather today after he plead not guilty to larceny and battery.
Many may be well advised not to wait on Mayweather’s return to the ring, as legal issues are likely to halt his career and a prospective lucrative fight with sensation Manny Pacquiao.
Mayweather was arrested in September after police received notice from Harris he had broken into her house without permission and assaulted her.
Allegations were compounded when it was revealed their two children were party to the event, and that one had even testified against the undefeated fighter.
Mayweather allegedly snapped after finding out about Harris was romantically linked to basketball player C.J. Watson, at which point he attacked her.
Mayweather is considered one of two of the top boxers on the planet. In recent years he has earned more money than any other fighter. His last contest was a bout against “Sugar” Shane Mosley, in which he won a wide decision and earned roughly $40-million.
“Pretty Boy Floyd” comes from a prestigious boxing empire with father “Big Floyd” and uncle Roger themselves noted fighters and trainers.
Floyd Sr. emphasized defensive tactics with his son, the central tenets of which are how to roll a punch, and reduce fighting angles so as to remain entirely out of the line of fire.
Roger picked up later in Mayweather’s career and re-emphasized an offensive approach. He continues to train Mayweather, with his father stepping in with advice from time to time at his big fights.
Roger Mayweather is also expected in court for his own trial against female boxer Melissa St. Vil. Charges against likewise include battery.
