Floyd Mayweather snr thinks his son is still more popular than Manny Pacquiao – Boxing News
Floyd Mayweather snr, father of the current WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather jnr, believes that even though his son is near retirement, he still is way more popular than Manny Pacquiao, the current WBO welterweight champion.
In his recent interview, Mayweather snr went ahead to talk about his son’s career and where he thinks his son is going to be. He appreciated his son’s achievements and compared him to the Filipino pride saying, “It's been proven already that my son can sell
more tickets than Pacquiao! It's been proven that on a couple of different occasions that my son can sell more tickets than Pacquiao. Age might be catching up with him [Mayweather Jnr] now. I'm pretty sure it's catching up with him. He's not Superman. He's
not Superman or anything like that."
He added that his son is a normal person just like everyone else and age can take him down. However, he said that his son is keeping himself in good shape which will be beneficial to him in the long run as it can get him better opportunities once he retires.
Floyd Mayweather jr is currently scheduled to face Miguel Cotto on May 5 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Commenting on his son’s upcoming fight, Floyd said that he wishes for his son to be more aggressive and throw more punches. He said that his son is not
that old that he cannot throw punches and that whenever you are in good shape you can do anything you want to do. He added that Floyd is currently is in his best shape and he can throw a lot more punches than he ever has.
Lastly, Floyd snr was asked about Cotto and if he thinks Cotto can put up a tough fight. According to him, Cotto can actually put up a great fight against his son than either of his recent opponents. However, he still is very much confident that his son
will win the show. He then said that Cotto will put up a better fight than Shane Mosley did. For now, Mayweather snr is waiting on his son to gain another victory against Cotto.
