Floyd Mayweather surprisingly quiet against Miguel Cotto – Boxing News
Floyd Mayweather, the current WBC welterweight champion, has not spoken about Miguel Cotto the way he speaks for his opponents usually. The unbeaten American is known for trash talking but this time, it seems like Mayweather is not interested. In his recent
interview, Mayweather said that he will do what he has to in the ring and he will not talk trash against Miguel Cotto, the Puerto Rican fighter who will be facing Mayweather tomorrow at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Moreover, even Miguel Cotto is a different man now, after the death of his father. Cotto had spoken a lot about Antonio Margarito before their rematch last year. However, this time Cotto is a quiet man too. Some of his close friends believe that Cotto wants
to fight Mayweather and other famous boxers to honour his dad’s teachings. Bryan Perez, Cotto’s friend, said, “His dad, that was the most painful feeling of all. But his father taught him to grow through pain, be himself and strong through adversity. Cotto
wants to honour what his dad taught him.”
On the other hand, Oscar De La Hoya, promoter of the fighter, appreciated Cotto’s composure saying, “Everyone who fights Mayweather — myself included — gets frustrated by how he is. His talking. Being so slippery in the ring. The trick is to stay calm, cool,
collected, and that's who Miguel Cotto is. He sticks to his guns. He goes to the body well, he's a good counterpuncher," Mayweather said of Cotto. "He's done all the things it takes to get to this level.”
In their previous face-off session, Mayweather looked quite confident. He iterated that he will go in the ring and do whatever he usually does and take down Cotto. On the other hand, Cotto said that he is working hard to develop strategies that will work
on Mayweather.
Both the fighters will be stepping in the ring tomorrow night, May 5. Mayweather will have his unbeaten streak on the line whereas Cotto will have his WBA (Super) Light Middleweight Championship on the line. If Mayweather wins, he grabs Cotto’s title, but
if Cotto wins he ends Mayweather’s streak forever.
