Floyd Mayweather talks about jail life and fight against Manny Pacquiao – Boxing News
WBC welterweight titlist Floyd Mayweather spoke about his jail life and his possible fight against former WBO titlist Manny Pacquiao, during his appearance on Hot97GM NY.
When asked as to whether he missed his house during his jail time, Mayweather replied, “It really wasn't the mansion. My freedom was more important than anything. I think sometimes when we're out here in the world; the American mentality is 'I wanna be rich.'
But once you freedom is gone, you don't care about money, you just want your freedom. You just want to see a tree, walk through a park.”
Mayweather was released on August 1 from jail after spending 2 months in prison. The WBC champion was originally subjected to a 3-month jail sentence, but due to his good behaviour, he was released from jail one month earlier.
Mayweather was then asked regarding a possible super-bout against Filipino congressman Manny Pacquiao. While most believed the answer would have been harsh, Mayweather was pretty polite this time.
“I don't have any hate towards Manny Pacquiao, you know. I respect him, but I'm just saying, it's [asking for OSDT] not a crime. I'm also saying, I'ma do random blood and urine testing, you know, just so I can be in a clean sport. That's all I'm asking.”
Mayweather, who has always spoken trash for Pacquiao, was surprisingly quite respectful towards the former WBO champion.
Mayweather last fought on May 5, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas against Puerto Rican fighter Miguel Cotto. He won the show via unanimous decision after spending twelve rounds in the ring against Cotto. On the other hand, Pacquiao last fought against American
unbeaten fighter Timothy Bradley. Unfortunately, Pacquiao was not as lucky as Mayweather.
The Filipino fighter lost to Bradley via split decision, losing his WBO welterweight title. Now, Pacquiao is scheduled to fight on November 10, and his opponent has not been decided yet. Chances are that the Filipino might go against Bradley in a rematch
or Marquez in a fourth match.
Whatever the scenario may be, Mayweather is determined that if a fight between him and Pacquiao happens, he will be the winner.
