Floyd Mayweather vs. Miguel Cotto generated 1.5 million PPV – Boxing News
Floyd Mayweather vs. Miguel Cotto was the event of this month, not only for boxing fans but also for their sponsors. According to a recent report, the event which had Floyd Mayweather beating Miguel Cotto via unanimous decision generated approximately $94
million revenue. The event took place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 5. It is now the second most profitable boxing event of all time.
The pay per view event was carried out by HBO and was promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and Mayweather Promotions. Floyd Mayweather signed the highest-paying contract ever for the fight along with the pay per view shares. In other words, not only did HBO
earned well, even Mayweather crossed the line of richness with this event.
The fight between both the pugilists was an outstanding one. Most analysts had rated Cotto as a 3 is to 1 underdog, but Cotto proved his mettle against Mayweather. Even though Cotto lost, he made Mayweather bleed and showed the world that Mayweather is not
that tough to fight after all. After the match, Mayweather claimed that he gave fans a spectacular show. However, most analysts were of the view that Cotto was the better man in the ring.
Hall of Famer Freddie Roach came up saying that Cotto had taken over Mayweather, especially in the eighth round, but since he lacks good punching power, he could not knock out Mayweather. In the post bout press conference, Mayweather said, “Tonight we gave
the fans what they wanted to see. We matched the best with the best. Cotto was a very tough competitor and he won some rounds. He pushed me to the limits and this is what it’s all about. Miguel Cotto fought his a*s off tonight and I want to congratulate him
and his team. You’ve seen me in flashy cars, but I want you to know that I do give back to the community. This is what it’s all about. It’s not about making a lot of money. It’s about giving back. I don’t want be on TV and not give you guys [the fans and media]
what you deserve.”
