Flu shot and immunizations?

Just wondering if anyone knows/thinks they know if I can give my son a flu shot at his 6 month vaccination appt in october?

They have to be 6 months or older for a flu shot (unless they are extremely high risk and the benefit outweighs the risk) is my understanding.

beginning this year, the flu shot is being formally recommended for all children 6 to 59 months of age and their close contacts.

If you live in the US yes.  As far as I know its not approved in most other countries for use under age 1.

Flu shots are approved for babies 6  months or older.

After a lot of research, I am now very much against vaccines. (I used to be very pro-vaccine before the research) So I would advise against the flu vaccine for your 6 month old.

But, if you do it, here are the brands to avoid, because they still have the FULL 25 mcg of mercury in them!

Afluria, multi dose

FluLaval

Fluvirin

Fluzone 5 mL vial

This is the brand with about 1 mcg of mercury:

Fluarix

And the following brands have no mercury:

Afluria single dose

FluMist (only available for people over the age of 2 years)

Fluzone "no preservative"

Bring my list to the doctor, and please refuse any of the brands that have 25 mcg of mercury.  That is way too much for a 6 month old.  Be careful with Afluria and Fluzone, because both those brands have a full mercury version and a no mercury version.  So look carefully.

When October comes around, check that website I linked to again, to see if there's been any changes.
