Question:

Fluid dynamics problem?

a pipe carries oil at a mean velocity of 6m/s. the pipe is 5km long and 1.5 diameter. the surface roughness is 0.8mm. the density is 890kg/m^3 and the dynamic viscocity is 0.014 Ns/m^2.

Determine: 1) the friction coefficient using the moody chart or haalands formula

2) the friction head, hf

any help would be greatly appreciated.

  1. To find the friction coefficient, calculate the Reynolds Number and the Relative Roughness then go to the Moody Chart

For the Friction Head, use the Darcy Weisbach Equation

Since this is a homework problem, really dont want to give any more help, but if needed, just ask.

  2. dang son! dunno the answer but i'm taking that course next semester with other 4 more engineering class..and i'm freaking scared!!!
