Question:

Fluid is leaking from stitching after cesarean?

Hi Frenz,

My wife had cesarean exactly a month ago. Her stitching was almost dissolved. Now, some fluid is leaking from the stitching. But there is no pain on it. We consulted the doctor. Doctor says since she had pressure during pregnancy, its happening and its normal. And doctor applied some ointment and put some bandage on it.

Anybody experienced this. Please send some suggestions.

Thanks in Advance.

  1. I leaked for about 8 weeks after my first c-section.  For me, the site was irritated a bit, between clothing and extra skin.  As long as the site is clean, dry, and doesn't look infected, I wouldn't worry.  Just bring it up with the doc anytime you feel concerned about it.  I found that loosely taping gauze over the incision site during the day and letting it air out at night really helped.

  2. As long as there is no odor or pain a little fluid is fine.  I always have issues closing after sections.  Just stay in touch with the doctor.  Her 6 week check up should be coming up and if the leaking is still a problem the doctor might apply some silver nitrate to help seal the incision up more.

Have her wash the incision with soap and water and have her air it whenever she can.  This helped my leaking.

  3. ya my friends did that and it was cause she only waited 2 weeks before having s*x, and the inside of her uterus didnt heal yet and the outside looked like it was fine.

she had a nurse come and clean out the hole dailey and put gauze in it, now she has a little indent where that happened

  4. Clear fluid without pain is normal.

  5. ok i had 3 c-sections an each one got harder an took alil longer to heal. some fluid is normal unless it is very discolor with a very bad odor. think of it like a scab sometimes it gets a lil discolored an ugly but slowly dries up. as long as she is not having an abdominal pain she should be fine. take it easy with the heavy lifting so they don't pop open an make sure to follow the doctors orders:)    Deanna:)

  6. I had that, only my fluid didn't leak.  It just built up behind the incision until it was so inflamed and swollen that I couldn't even zip my pants.  The doctor had to reopen the incision, and he drained over 12 ounces of fluid from it.  What a pleasant experience THAT was!

As long as there's no infection, there's no reason to worry.  Just keep applying the ointment and dressing, and if it looks like fluid is building up behind the skin, call her OB.
