Question:

Fluid pocket in my ankle?

About 2 1/2 weeks ago, I was at a soccer tournament and landed on my ankle wrong when I was running...my toes hit the ground, but my leg went forward, and I kind of tripped. Anyways, it still hurts, and now it feels like there is a kind of pouch (or something) of liquid or fluid, right above my ankle. What do I do?

  1. This is very normal after a traumatic injury, and takes a few weeks to heal completely. If you have a athletic trainer that is with the soccer team you could ask them take a look at it. Sometimes a cold pack will relieve the swelling, and a heating pad can reduced the pain. If the pain becomes unbearable, the pain isn't relieved by over the counter meds, or if you notice the swollen area becoming red, and hot to the touch see the doctor.
