I noticed that Incandescent light bulbs give off a warm light, whereas it seems like Fluorescent light bulbs give off a cold, bright light.

I like the warmth feeling that Incandescent lights give off, are there fluorescent light bulbs that give off the same feeling?

  1. Some of the recent florescent lamps are coloured to make them more orange and to be less cold. These kinds s***w into a regular incadescent lamp fitting. They give more light and are much cheeper to run, but their cost is higher to buy.

  3. No. Fluorescent lights are operated by electricity charging mercury vapor. The reaction of this combination produces ultra violet light causing a phosphor element to illuminate, giving off light. There is no element being heated, just atoms reacting with electrons.

With incandescent lighting an actual tungsten element is heated, when electricity passed through it, heating it, then creating it to glow, therefore giving of light. It is similar to the wires in a toaster which glow, creating heat and light.

  4. Yes, you can get flourescent lights of differing colour temperature and hue.

Warm white is often used for domestic applications.

Butchers tend to use a light with more red, to show off the meat better.

  5. I think you can. Just go to your local hardware store and talk to them about the type you want they should help you out.
