On the major scales, how low or high do you go. For example, on E, do i start on the first line which is low, or the last space which is the high e.

ps. Where can i download or look at scales for the flute.

  1. Hello Briana.... to answer your 2nd question first....  I am adding a great site to look at and download the flute scales... all of them.   http://homepage.mac.com/teonorsax/duets/...

Generally speaking,  you will most often see scales written for two octaves beginning in the first register.  If you are just a beginner...  scales are introduced as one octave.  Hope that helps... but I know the link I sent you will answer all of your questions and more.   Happy fluting.

  2. Play all of your scales starting on the staff unless you're trying to get your high notes out.

Make sure you don't try to play higher than you know the fingerings, though.

  3. well, it all depends on how high or low you can play the flute. if you start on the low e, then you play until you get to the high e in the space. the notes for the scale are : e g-flat a-flat a b d-flat e-flat e. i can play most woodwinds and the piano, which is similar to the flute. if you have anymore questions email me!

  4. The previous responder has no idea what he is talking about - the scale of E has 4 sharps, and no flats.  e f# g# a b c# d# e.  Most scales on the flute are played for two octaves, unless you have the *room* on the flute to do 3 - like the C scale, Db, and the B scale if you have a B foot.

Just abo0ut any music theory site will give you scales written out - they are the same for all instruments.  If you need fingerings, then www.wfg.woodwind.org will give ou what you need.
