Question:

Fluting The barrel of AK good idea?

As an avid gun owner I am trying to find a way to settle the debate between the M4 and the AK once and for all. I have never fluted a barrel before(it's going to be professional done, i'm not that silly) Does it actually make a noticable drop in muzzle flip?

  1. No, it's a terrible idea. Not only is an AK barrel thin, it's going to flip even  more if you make it lighter. Now if you said you were going to make a heavy barrel AK, you might be on to something.

  2. I didnt think there was enough barrel on an AK to flute.  I doubt that with that particular rifle that its going to make a huge difference, the barrel will be flimsy because its not as thick as an M4 barrel and thus its going to have that wavy motion when its shot.  Give it a try, and if it works I may have to do the same to my AK.  If nothing else, see if they can port the barrel to help discharge gases a lot better, that could cut down on barrel wave and recoil quite a bit.
