How lenient are BMI when it comes to luggage on domestic flights?

http://www.flybmi.com/bmi/en-gb/planning-and-information/before-you-travel/baggage-advice/baggage-advice.aspx

I can see from there that the max is 20kg in TOTAL(?!!) for two pieces of luggage which really isn't a lot... I live in Scotland for Uni and now I'm flying back to England for the Summer.

  1. Basically, it depends. I'm a student from England and I have been studying in Spain this year. Me and my friends have compared this often, and it depends on how busy the plane is, when you check in, and even who serves you. some of my friends have had heavy bags and got the through no problems. others have explained their situation and been let off, and others have had to pay more than the ticket was in the first place just for their bags.

Sorry for the indecisive answer, but if i were you I'd get there as early as possible, and explain your situation. If you'd rather not risk it, consider posting some of you stuff back. especially  text books and heavier items. Good luck :)

  2. Honestly...?  Expect the worst.

If you are a frequent flyer with bmi or another Star Alliance carrier, you may be entitled to extra baggage.  However, when oil is as expensive as it is at the moment,  I wouldn't count on getting away with anything.

Get their early and see what they say.  If they are going to sting you, go to the excess luggage "shop" that they have at most airports - they will be able to arrange for your luggage to be sent up, and it should be much cheaper than paying the excess charges.  It won't fly with you, so if you need it urgently, its no good, but otherwise, it should save you a fortune.
