Flyers close gap on the Canucks with a 3-2 win against the Predators

One of the most important games of Thursday was the Philadelphia Flyers playing host to the Nashville Predators. The match was played at the Wells Fargo Arena with a capacity crowd coming to witness the match as the home team looked to catch up on the league
leaders.
The match was very close and was evenly matched throughout the three periods but the Flyers managed to score more goals in the final period to emerge as 3-2 winners of the match. Ville Lieno caught the eyes of many as he scored two goals which resulted in
him being named the star selection of the match.
Both teams made a decent start to the match which saw them waiting for spaces to develop rather than attacking relentlessly. There were a few chances early on but the teams weren’t in the flow as yet so no goals were seen early on. Both teams got stronger
as the period moved on with the Flyers starting to make loads of goal attempts.
They were rewarded for the hard work they put as Jeff Carter scored through a quick fired shot in the 11th minute to put the Flyers in the lead. Despite taking the lead, the Flyers continued to attack. However, this backfired as the Predators
attacked and scored in the very next minute to level the scores once again. The goal was scored by Marcel Goc from a decent shot.
There were a few more shots made by both teams but they failed to convert them into goals and the period ended with the scores level on 1-1. During the course of the period the Flyers made 9 goal attempts while the Predators made 8 goal attempts.
The second period saw the Flyers start the period stronger with the Predators making coming up with a few attacks occasionally. Though they could have easily taken the lead given the amount of chances they got but the only thing they lacked was finishing.
On the other hand, Nashville Predators got stronger and stronger with the passage of time and it was they who dominated the game as the period was nearing its end. Still no further goals were scored though both teams made numerous goal attempts. The period
ended with the scores still level on 1-1 with Predators making 13 goal attempts in the period while Flyers made 9 goal attempts.
The final period saw the home team start with a lot of confidence and play in a smooth and fluent way. They combined very well and scored in the 7th minute through Ville Lieno to get into the lead. Though Flyers were stronger of the two teams
but a defence lapse in the 11th minute saw the Predators scoring in the 11th minute through Joel Ward to level the scores once again.
However, the Flyers sealed the match with the final goal of the match in the 17th minute scored by Ville Lieno from a brilliant backhand shot as the Flyers won the match 3-2 in the end. During the course of the final period Flyers made 12 goal
attempts while the Predators made 7 goal attempts.
