Flying Light eager to make third straight Galway trip a success
The John Queally trained bay gelding, Flying Light, struggled badly in each of his last two Galway trips, and he thinks it is enough. Now, the veteran horse is not going to miss any chance to seal top spot in his third straight start at the Irish venue.
This is Mervue Maiden Hurdle, scheduled to be held on Wednesday, September 12.
The six-year-old brilliant gelding has to compete against a dozen of rivals on the soft course of 2 miles. He is tempted to bag €6,900.
Flying Light has just one triumph to his name but he has delivered some decent performances since debuting in April 2010. He broke his maiden in December 2010 with the title of Waterford & Tramore Supporters Club Ladies INH Flat Race.
This is not going to be a big deal for the horse to adjust to the track as he has experienced the similar surfaces.
Since the dawn of the calendar year, the son of Chevalier out of Light-Flight has been doing well. On March 31, he finished second in the 16-runner race of WWW.thetote.com Maiden Hurdle, held at Navan.
The skilled gelding went on to gain the third spot in the June 16th & 22nd Twilight Racing Maiden Hurdle that went down at Limerick. He again earned the runner-up rank in the 1912-2012 Tramore Racecourse Centenary (Ladies) Maiden.
On July 30, the John McEnery bred sprinter ran at Galway for the first time and finished 15th in the 20-runner event of HotelMeyrick.ie & theghotel.ie Handicap Hurdle. That was pathetic indeed.
Flying Light improved a lot and achieved the runner-up position in his second straight Galway visit on August 4. That was the Ladbrokes Maiden Hurdle, ran by 18 contestants.
So we can hope that the brilliant horse will be able to earn his second career victory in today’s marathon. The punters are going to stake their money on him. It is up to Andrew J. McNamara how better he exploits the horse’s talent.
Overall, the contest is likely to be packed with thrill and sensation. Let us enjoy the heated spar. Good luck to Flying Light.
