Flying The Flag, one with the most potential to be top class in Galileo European Breeders Fund Futurity Stakes
Manieree having enough in favour in Lanwades Stud Fillies Stakes
Galileo European Breeders Fund Futurity Stakes attracts plenty of high profile runners every year. The 2012 edition of the Group 2 meeting has only five horses in the line-up, and Curragh’s weather is to blame for this. Nevertheless, it is a noteworthy competition, taking place on Sunday, August 26th.
A few class acts have won this race in the past, and Flying The Flag looks to be the one to support this season. The 2-year-old novice was pretty impressive on his debut, when winning the Leopardstown.com Race last month. J. P. O’Brien, who rode him last time, is due to come out with Nevis today, but it would matter only a little.
Trainer Aidan O’Brien will also be represented by Kingston Jamaica, but the real clash is between Nevis and Flying The Flag. The former is also coming off a stunning performance at Leopardstown, where he was triumphant in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Maiden.
Without a doubt, it is hard to make a choice between Nevis and Flying The Flag. The latter should be preferred, given that he was able to win a good race first time out.
The punters will also be interested in staking their money in the Group 3 Lanwades Stud Fillies Stakes, getting started at 16:20 GMT. Seven quality runners will lock horns in the 1m1f event, and the victor will be given a cash prize worth €39,000.
One does not need to do much calculations before betting on Manieree, who won two consecutive races here last year. The brown filly is making debut as 4-year-old, and her absence is clearly a worry. However, the rest of the pack does not make a strong case against John Oxx´s likeable front-runner.
Ahead of going on a long vacation, the daughter of Medicean won two graded events. The situation suggests that no one will be able to stop her from registering another victory at this level.
Up may do the next best. The 3-year-old has not yet opened her account this season, but this looks an ideal chance for her to claim a notable share of the purse. We wish the best of luck to all the runners.
