Question:

Flying ants bating?

II have some flying ants, well lots of them. They come out at night and they stay over a window. I really need to get rid of them. I have been reading in the net about their behavior and how they reproduce. I have sprayed them, but that only solved the problem for couple of days. I have read that I need to make wholes and put dust pesticide inside the wall to get rid of them, but since I am not an expert I don’t want to do that yet. I have also heard that I can put bate around the places where they come to get food, does anyone have any good suggestion for bating. What chemical to use, what food to use? I have tried sugar with water and boric acid, but no success.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

  1. This is for chemical free pest removal.  I've used it, it does work.  Just sprinkle it on.  I got this info from a garden supply web site, but you can find it in other sites.  Just search.

"Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth (Fossil Shell Flour) has many uses: in the household, with pets, on plants, around livestock, and for stored grain. It is totally organic and listed with OMRI.

Household: Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth is used around the house as an organic pesticide for the control of ants, cockroaches, silverfish, bedbugs, fleas, box elder bugs, scorpions, crickets, ticks, and many other unwelcome pests.

Natural ant control is one of the biggest reasons for the usage of Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth in and around the home. For complete ant control, simply sprinkle the area of concern with fossil shell flour (DE). When the ants or other pests come in contact with the powder, it is like stepping on broken glass, they will be killed or abandon the area."

  2. Tour first step should be to determine which ants you are dealing with and the nature of the infestation.  Are they inside your house?  If they are carpenter ants they are a threat to your house and you must take vigorous action.  Acrobat ants or others may be a nuisance but less of a problem.  Once you know the type then you can identify the bait.  If they are fire ants then use Amdro because they will take the bait back to the nest and feed the colony and queen.  You might want to contact some pros like Terminix if they are carpenter ants.  Can't mess around with them because they will eat your house.  They can also help you with baits for other ants.

Good luck and 73 from the Fisherman
