Flying ants everywhere !!!?

Question

why is it that for just one evening a year there are flying ants everywhere, how come they all come out on the same evening and what causes them to do it, pesky things were all over the place last night , how come it just does it for one evening a year, blooming things !

Its the way they reproduce and the best answer I suppose is thats just the way it is...lol It happens (depending on the species) during spring ,summer & fall.The colony produces males (drones) who are winged at birth and whos only purpose in life is mate.They fly out of the colony where they form the pesky clouds that you are complaining about...lol The new queens follow a short time later.They mate in the air and then both fall to ground.The males die and the queens go off in search of a place to start a new colony.
