  1. During the daytime they fan themselves with membranous wings, crawl over the branches, seek mates, defend favored roost location against other bats, and if a stranger approaches, they squawk and chatter loudly.

How far they can crawl is not known.

Bat as a pet ?? some people do.

  2. NO bat has four legs.  They have two legs on the rear and wings on the front.  The wing "wrists" have hooked "thumbs" which enable the animal to cling onto branches, etc.  If a bat, any bat, ends up on the ground for some reason, they "can" crawl a little bit, using their feet and their wrists, but it is not comfortable for them and they will not remain in this attitude long.

Flying Foxes are against the law to have as pets, especially in the United States.  Any animal that is NOT indigenous to our country should not be allowed in unless super-careful care and housing can be provided, like in a accredited zoo.  Nature is very well balanced, and the introduction of an animal not from here would upset this balance and create great problems.  Nature WILL take care of itself, as long as man does not interfere.

Flying Foxes and all other bats for that matter, would be VERY difficult to care for and house.  They all have extremely special needs and should be left alone in the wild where they belong and where they can help keep our planet healthy and strong.
