Question:

Flying from Heathrow - JFK?

I hope to take a holiday to New York this Christmas to go Christmas shopping and I've only been on a plane once and that was a long time ago so I was hoping you could give me some advice on some airlines you've flown with and if they were good or bad. I'd also appreciate it if you told me of some cheap airlines to fly with!

Thanks.

  1. American and British Airways are good.

Virgin is good but the legroom is bad.

Not sure who flies to JFK though - a lot of airlines fly to La Guardia or Newark instead.

Try Sidestep (see link) and check the airlines that fly into JFK.

That will narrow it down a lot for you.

  2. Love Delta and British Airways. Their customer service is impeccable. I have flown on over 15 airlines. There is a new one called Open Skies. Give them a try. They are trying to build their customer base, you may even get a free upgrade.

  3. Well if you are in London, then obviously British Airways might be a good option, but I have never flown with them.  American is a decent carrier, and they have a hub at JFK.  United has a hub in Newark, and they will give an experience comparable to American.  Any other US airlines than that will probably be very expensive, though Delta might be okay.  Flying isn't too great these days - you are lucky if you are not delayed.

  4. Virgin Atlantic is usually going to be the cheapest between those two destinations. I personally, avoid American Airlines at all costs - I have had nothing but trouble with them while flying domestically, I wouldnt trust them at all with an inernational flight.   When you are searching, make sure you expand your seach to Newark (EWR) airport as well. Your fare may be cheaper, and its very simple to get into the city from there.  On most sites, if you search LHR - NYC, it will search all the New York City airports for you.  Good luck.
