I really need some help on flying with a 11 month old baby. I need to know if I should bring my carseat on the plane with me or check it. What is easier? My son has his own seat so I am just worried he is going to run around and be hard to handle if I don't have him in carseat. Also How am I suppose to lay him down to sleep? Traveling from Germany to the states.

  1. They are going to give you little bed you can put your son in... they have it available in the planes... you can also ask the agents at the gate for it

  2. You need to ask for a bascinet seat for your infant. Airlines generally allocate these to the youngest babies on board. As for your child, he will have his seatbelt on so I don't see why he wouldn't stay in his seat. The car seat will just take up room and make you uncomfortable - most airlines will make you check it in. Kids have no problems sleeping on flights as they are so little. Just lie him down in his seat with his head on your lap.

  3. Hi -

This is a great website with pointers on flying with kids.

You might want to ask your doctor about giving your child some Benadryl. I know a number of moms who give this to their children before they fly to help them relax.

Of course, you can always check with the airline to see what type of ammenities they have for young children. They will have some suggestions too.

  4. I believe you are going to have to hold your baby on take off and arrival - at least we did anyway on our last international flight to Germany from the States.  My suggestion to you is don't let your baby take a  nap during the day - since for an international flight you usually leave at early evening/afternoon hours  - after take off put the baby in a bassinet provided by the airlines (call your airlines and ask if they provide one) orherwise it is the seat for the baby.  You could let him/her sleep on his back with his feet resting on your lap - they usually don't have an issue while sleeping.  It's the falling a sleep that can be a problem.

Try to keep the baby awake on the way to the airport.  They most probably will fall asleep in their carseat on the way their if denied a nap.  Otherwise, let them wake up early from their nap or take a late morning nap.

Check out these travel products from onestepahead.com  We used the Baby B'air harness on our 17 month old and it worked(maybe 70% of the time) to restrain her in her seat once the airplane was at cruising altitude.  But they do get finicky - don't they - then nothing works. LOL!!

You will have to ask for a quote for international shipping prices to Germany.
