Great Britain surpassed all expectations when three players reached the second round of the Australian Open. Andy Murray was joined there by world No. 83 Elena Baltacha and Katie O’Brien. Even more surprisingly, both Murray and Baltacha were still in the mix by the end of round two. But while Baltacha mustered all the bravado she could in the face of a third round match against second seed Dinara Safina, she couldn’t match that on the court and the Russian recorded her most comprehensive win of the tournament. Predictably, it’s now once again left to Murray to fly the flag for Blighty.
