Question:

Flying to US from China with toddler?

I'm trying to find tickets to go to West Palm Beach, FL from Guangzhou, China for early October and I'm somewhat worried as I will be flying with my son (he'll be 22 months by then). We've been flying internationally a lot and my worries are more about how the Chinese security at the airport treated us.

When we flew out of China to visit my parents in Jakarta, Indonesia(only 4.30 hours flight long) they made me pour all the milk I brought for my son into his sippy cups. I brought several packs of those UHT milk (with chinese writing as well as english on its boxes!) as he only drinks whole milk. They forced me to do so even after I explained "Milk...baby!" while pointing out to my son yet they don't care and after filling up 3 sippy cups I was forced to throw away the leftovers even unopened ones. Because it was quite a short flight we managed to survived and the airline did gave us milk.

Now, I'm worried if I'll be facing another problems bringing milks for my son for our flight to the US. It's a long flight and I just checked with American Airlines website (chances are we will be flying them) about travelling with infants and children, it stated that they don't always have milk on board.

Do you guys have any suggestion or ideas? I can't give my son juice for the whole flight. Thanks!

  1. I don't read, write, or speak Chinese, but maybe you could get someone does and they can browse this site and find the exact quote that says what is and isn't allowed. If the site says liquids are allowed (Like TSA makes exceptions for infants and toddlers) then you should print it and take it with you to show them. At the very least you will have a future reference for what is and is not allowed.

Good luck and I hope you find what you need!

  2. Take powder whole milk you can buy it from most supermarket chains. Then just ask for hot water on board. I know this isn't ideal but it seems like a good resolution. They will allow you to take it on board as it isn't a liquid. I hope this helps.

    Have a safe flight, x
