Question:

Flying with a Temporary ID?

My cousin and sister are here in San Diego visiting me and are planning to leave on Saturday... Two days!! The only problem is, the only forms of ID either of them have are temporary ID's issued by the state of New Mexico until the actual ID cards come in the mail.

I need to know if they can fly with a temporary ID or if I should just put them on a greyhound.

  1. Greyhound (or Amtrak) would be best

  2. Federal Law:

You MUST have a valid, government issued, photo ID to get your boarding pass, or get through security if you're an adult.

    It's not the airline's decision.

A temporary ID without a photo will not work for you.

  3. You do NOT need an ID to go through airport security. This is a misconception MANY people have.

All they have to do is let security know they only have their temporary IDs and they will be subject to extra security screening.

  4. They have to have a government issued photo i.d. in order to travel by air.  Here's a hint, they can get a California ID from the DMV and they might get the card the same day.

  5. hay!

    Temporary Id will not work.
