Flying with a minor child--documentation/ID?

Obviously I'll have my drivers license with me, but do I need to bring any type of identification for my 4 year old son when we fly from Georgia to California? Birth certificate, immunization record, etc., or will they just believe that he is who I say he is? :)

  1. I have never had to show ID for my 3 year old daughter, but I always bring it with us just in case.

  2. No your child should not need to bring anything but you should bring a id so you can walk your child through security checkpoint down to the gate, you do not need a id until you have become 16 years old mandated in TSA.

  3. When flying within the US and the child is under 16 you do not need anything to prove who the child is however, it is good practice to have the childs SSN and/or photo ID as the homeland security folks are continuously updating their proceedures.  As the law now requires a passport to go outside the country, that wouldn't hurt either.  You can always contact your air carrier for the latest information.

  4. There is a document needed to fly overseas, but there are no problems flying within the US.
